ACTIVITIES

Environmental Leadership Training Program.
Between 1994 and 2001, ERC’s main program activity was the Environmental Leadership Training Program. Conducted for six week periods between 1994 and 2001 at a primitive base camp in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Crestone, Colorado, the program brought together young people from two dozen countries. It was designed to encourage and support the transformation of personal perceptions and values, teach sustainable ways of living and working that are in balance with natures laws, and prepare participants to undertake practical environmental actions in their communities and bioregions upon completion of the six-week training course. Since 1994, many graduates of this ERC program have initiated various environmental restoration activities in their local communities and some have become environmental leaders in their countries.

Rock In Rio - For A Better World

ERC Brazil - In February 2002 ERC entered into and celebrated the partnership with an indigenous group from the Amazon, the Asheninka. "Ãtame Aniro: The Forest Is Our Mother", consists of a series of empowering activities aiming at promoting the general improvement in the quality of life of the people living along the Juruá River, in the Brazilian state of Acre. The program is based on a comprehensive approach for integrated environmental management and sustainable ethno-development of the indigenous lands, aiming at the direct empowerment of five thousand people and the indirect empowerment of a total of 35 thousand people. The program is based in the Asheninka village of Apiwtxa. The training activities will be directed at training trainers through courses and workshops. Upon completion of the training modules, trainers will then implement activities within the local population, on their lands.

Organizational and Program Development.
Since 2000, the ERC has been restructuring into a formal non-governmental organization with its own organizational structure. This has been accompanied by program development work designed to establish a program presence, in the form of action-based learning, in selected, culturally diverse countries.
