Board of Directors

Jan A. Hartke, Chair. Mr. Hartke is Executive Officer of EarthVoice, a leading environmental NGO that addresses a wide range of sustainable development issues.

John A. Hoyt, Vice-Chair. Founder and former President of The Humane Society of the United States, the world’s largest animal protection organization, Mr. Hoyt served as ERC’s first Chairman.

Hanne M. Strong, President. Mrs. Strong is the Earth Restoration Corp’s founder. She also serves as President of the Manitou Foundation, which has made land grants in Crestone, Colorado, for spiritual retreat centers to all major world faiths.

Robert C. Gustafson, Treasurer. Mr. “Gus” Gustafson, President of Gustafson Associates, has more than fifteen years of experience in developing and implementing international advocacy and education programs.

Flynn Bucy, Secretary. After working for twelve years as an independent consultant focusing on international sustainable development initiatives and sustainable energy technology transfers, Dr. Bucy nows works as Executive Director of the Earth Council of North America.

Maurice F. Strong, Member. Among several positions, honors, and awards, Mr. Strong, who organized the 1992 “Earth Summit” in Rio de Janeiro, serves as Chairman of the Earth Council and Special Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Carolina Garcia Travesi, Member. From the age of twelve, Mrs. Travesi has initiated more than 100 environmental projects in her native Mexico. She is recipient of the UN Environmental Fund’s “Global 500” Award.

Marcelo de Andrade, Member. Mr. Andrade, elected to the Board in 2003, is founder and President of Pro-Natura, an innovative Brazilian NGO devoted to sustainable development.

J. Stewart Borie, Member. Mr. Borie, elected to the Board in 2003, is Chairman and President of Entrust Environmental Corporation, which is developing “eco-bonds” as a new way to raise large pools of low interest, long-term capital for fund environmental protection and restoration.
